You know, as you know, … we can’t attribute any particular weather event to climate change. What we do know is the temperature around the globe is increasing faster than was predicted even 10 years ago. We do know that the Arctic ice cap is melting faster than was predicted even five years ago. We do know that there have been extraordinarily — there have been an extraordinarily large number of severe weather events here in North America, but also around the globe. – Barack Obama
Since 1880, when reliable temperature records began to be kept across most of the globe, the world has warmed by about 0.75 degrees Celsius. From the start of 1997 until August 2012, however, figures released last week show the answer is zero: the trend, derived from the aggregate data collected from more than 3,000 worldwide measuring points, has been flat. – Article from The Daily Mail – UK
Global warming stopped 16 years ago. The figures reveal that from the beginning of 1997 until August 2012 there was no discernible rise in aggregate global temperatures This means that the ‘pause’ in global warming has now lasted for about the same time as the previous period when temperatures rose, 1980 to 1996. — The MET
Here we go again. Obama thinks he has some kind of great mandate to do anything he wants to do during his second term. So look for congress to attempt to pass Cap and Trade.
The way I understand it, Under Cap and Trade, businesses that manufacture products in which CO2 is a byproduct, are charged a fee (tax), based on how much CO2 they produce. Those businesses also include power plants, which produce a lot of CO2.
Businesses receive tax credits when they produce fewer than the allotted amounts of CO2 and can “sell” their credits to those who produce large amounts. CO2 exchanges will be set up to handle the transactions. Look for some people, i.e. Al Gore, to become extremely wealthy by investing in CO2 exchanges.
Businesses always pass tax increases on to their customers. Therefore, under Cap and Trade, consumers can expect the cost of products to go up, causing an economic inflationary cycle. Since nearly 50% of all electricity in North America is produced by coal-fired plants, energy costs will dramatically increase.
The entire Cap and Trade scheme is predicated on the idea that the earth is warming. The warming is caused by an increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. And therefore CO2 is a pollutant; a wacky idea fostered upon an ignorant congress by Obama’s EPA.
In reality, CO2 only accounts for .038% of our total atmosphere and is hardly a pollutant, any more than water vapor is, which, by the way, comprises from 1% to as much as 5% of our atmosphere.
The CO2 pollutant scam and the Cap and Trade scheme are merely other ways in which government can rob a gullible citizenry of the fruits of their labor.
The earth is NOT warming. CO2 is a necessity for all life to survive and has been much higher at times during mankind’s long history. And any new tax will further damage an already weak economy.
The tragedy is that our lawmakers, beholden to their environmentalist financiers, don’t seem to care.
