Britney Spears is reportedly not in talks to renew her contract for “The X Factor”, according to Entertainmentwise today. A Fox network source cites the lack of the ratings boost they expected by signing Britney, along with her huge $15 million salary as reasons she may not return next season. Spears, who was just named music’s top earning female by Forbes, may be about to get some additional bad news. Sources claim Jason Trawick, her fiancé and manager, is about to dump the pop princess. The worst thing about it is she has no knowledge of it, at least until now.
ABC News reported last week that Britney Spears narrowly bested Taylor Swift in being named music’s top female earner for 2012, with $58 million. Taylor came in a close second with $57 million.
The 31 year-old singer has her 2011 album “Femme Fatale”, and the tour she did last year to support it, for boosting her to the top of the list. She neither released any new music in 2012, nor toured. Endorsement deals and her “X Factor” salary helped her bottom line as well.
But all is not so rosy, as they always say you gotta take the good with the bad, and the rumblings are there is plenty of bad coming Britney’s way. Even if she negotiates another year on her contract with “The X Factor”, she’ll likely have to suffer a hefty salary cut.
A senior executive at Fox said, “Simon had hoped Britney would be a ratings boost but that simply hasn’t happened. It’s no coincidence she is not in talks about a new deal”, according to the Daily Star.
Britney Spears is expected to end her association with the show after this week’s finale, following in the footsteps of fellow judge L.A. Reid. Last season’s ratings averaged 12 million, while some episodes this season had only 8 million viewers.
Business is just business though, and what’s worse is the news that Britney’s fiancé Jason Trawick has had it and wants out of the relationship. Hollyscoop is reporting that what’s been rumored about the couple’s split for months looks to be actually happening.
They claim sources close to the couple tell them, “Jason has told Britney’s entire family that he’s planning to leave her, so that Britney will have a support system when he breaks the bad news”.
Trawick doesn’t want to break up until “The X Factor” season ends though, so Brit won’t have to deal with the split while still doing the live shows. He and her family think Britney will take the news very hard.
The weirdest thing surrounding this story is that apparently Jason wants to stay on as Spears’ manager after the break-up. Basically their relationship would become strictly business.
It’s hard enough when co-workers get romantically involved and it doesn’t work out, and then they have to continue working together. But when it’s your boss that’s another story.
It’s hard to imagine Britney keeping Jason on post-breakup, unless she thinks he’s too important to her career to let him go as her manager. Also last we knew Jason was added as a co-conservator of Spears.
Her father Jamie and attorney Andrew M. Wallett have been co-conservators since the singer’s infamous meltdown in 2008. Britney had tried in August to end the arrangement, but her request was denied by the court.
The conservatorship issue resurfaced during Spears’ recent court case, where she was sued along with her parents by former “manager” Sam Lutfi. That case was thrown out at trial in October, but as of just days ago, the BBC reports the conservatorship stands, although Trawick has no say in the Britney’s finances.
Apparently a second source told Hollyscoop, “I haven’t heard anything about [the split], but I do know they are going on vacation together for the holidays”. Obviously Jason can’t cancel any plans until he drops the axe. Unless he plans to wait until after the holidays to sever ties with Britney.
As for her “X Factor” stint, one observer noted at the beginning of the season that Britney would need to be either awesome, or a train wreck, to have an impact on the ratings. Most critics agree she’s been neither.
As for Jason Trawick, maybe Britney’s top earner status will cause him to reconsider ditching her just yet. Not to suggest he’s only in it for the money, but he did leave his job to handle her affairs exclusively.
