On November 5, 2012, “The X Factor” U.S. held a party to celebrate the Top 12 contestants of the year. The event was held at the SLS Hotel’s Bazaar restaurant in Beverly Hills, California. But the question on a lot of people’s minds was “Where’s Simon Cowell?” Cowell is an executive producer and judge on the show. A spokesperson for Cowell and “The X Factor” U.S. emailed me to say that Cowell wasn’t at the party because “he was ill so [he] was at home.”
And who can blame Cowell for getting sick? He’s probably stressed out because the past few weeks have been among the worst for “The X Factor” U.S., which has its lowest ratings yet and is getting an avalanche of viewer complains and boycotts about co-host Khloe Kardashian. Ever since Kardashian and co-host Mario Lopez debuted in the show’s Season 2 live episodes on October 31, 2012, “The X Factor” U.S. has been losing millions of viewers. (Click here for more details.) The overall consensus from the majority of viewers is that people really dislike Kardashian and think she should be fired, while Lopez is well-liked and people want to see him continue to host the show.
Cowell staying at home from the party meant that he didn’t have to answer questions from the media about “The X Factor” U.S.’s ratings crisis and Kardashian fiasco. After all, Cowell had been telling the media for quite some time that Kardashian would be a hit with “X Factor” viewers, even though she has no previous experience as a TV host. Unfortunately for Cowell and the show, he was completely wrong in that prediction, and the backlash against Kardashian has turned into a PR nightmare for the show. (Click here for more details.)
Even though Cowell wasn’t at “The X Factor” U.S. Top 12 party, other stars from the show were there, including:
The other judges: Britney Spears, Demi Lovato and L.A. Reid.
The co-hosts: Kardshian and Lopez.
The Top 12 contestants: Beatrice Miller, Arin Ray, Carly Rose Sonenclar, CeCe Frey, Jennel Garcia, Paige Thomas, Vino Alan, Jason Brock, Tate Stevens, male trio Emblem3, girl group 1432 (which will soon get a new name) and hip-hop trio Lyric 145.
“Pepsi Pre-Show Live” personalities: Adrienne Bailon, Jesse Giddings and Jim Cantiello. (“Pepsi Pre-Show Live” is the Web series for “The X Factor” U.S.)
Based on some of the tweets by the partygoers, it seems as if “X Factor” contestant Alan may have seen some very attractive women there but he tweeted didn’t go home with anyone and went to bed alone since he’s a “one-woman man.”
Well, OK then. A little too much information, but thanks for sharing.
And is there a romance brewing between 17-year-old Arin Ray and 16-year-old Normani Hamilton of girl group 1432? Ray tweeted a photo of them with his arm around her. The Twitter message said: “Honored to get a photo op with @normanikordei.”
“X Factor” viewers may remember Ray and Hamilton had loads of chemistry in their passionate ballad-version duet of One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” during “X Factor” boot camp, and it seems like they’re definitely attracted to each other. They would make a very cute couple, so we’ll see what happens.
Here is what some of the partygoers had to say on Twitter during and after the party:
