According to Mayan and Hopii civilization lore, on December 21, 2012, the world as we know it will be ground zero for a cataclysmic event that will either be in the form of a global awakening, or Armageddon.
While some folks take the End of Days scuttlebutt as gospel and are digging trenches in their yards burying Spam, money, canned beans and porno, rock bands like Bon Jovi are having none of it.
That’s because for these New Jersey rock stars, Armageddon already took place when Hurricane Sandy gripped the northeast in a chainsaw of a storm that forever changed a landscape and ripped apart lives.
You can’t fear something you’ve already lived through, which is why on December 12, 2012 Bon Jovi will join other noted musicians in Madison Square Garden to raise money for the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund.
The 12-12-12 Concert For Hurricane Sandy Relief will also feature Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Kanye West, Roger Waters, Alicia Keys, The Who, Sir Paul McCartney, Billy Joel, and Foo Fighters front-man Dave Grohl and Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.
Concert organizers expect to add more performers in the coming days.
Bon Jovi is no stranger to philanthropy with his stewardship of his own Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation and his numerous charitable activities throughout the years, but this storm, in this state, and in his hometown is personal.
Hurricane Sandy not only touched every landmark of his youth, but it also scarred deeply the northeast where Bon Jovi first took a foothold in the music industry back in the early 1980’s.
Produced by Hollywood motion picture executive Harvey Weinstein, the concert will be aired live from Madison Square Garden and broadcast around the world. Check your local cable provider for listings.
All proceeds will benefit The Robin Hood Relief Fund, which was started in the 1980’s by hedge fund manager in New York. Supported heavily by the city’s financial district, it has funded hundreds of nonprofits in New York City, and was a key beneficiary of the Concert for New York, which was held in Madison Square Garden after the 9/11 attacks.
Chase is co-sponsoring the event. Tickets go on sale at 12 noon (EST) on December 3, and Chase cardholders will get first shot at the tickets with a special pre-sale for those with Chase credit or debit cards at 9am that morning.
