Traveling isn’t the easiest thing to do during holiday season. It doesn’t matter what transportation medium you have chosen, whether it is domestic or international travel. As traveler you have to wrestle long security checks, crowded spaces, luggage issues and unending cues.
It is also most likely that you will be traveling with gifts which might just increase your trouble, if you aren’t that thoughtful in carrying them along. Here are few points that’ll help you travel with gifts during holiday season and keep them safe as well.
Leave gifts unwrapped – If you are flying, then it’s better to leave the gifts unwrapped. Though wrapped gifts are allowed both in checked and carry-on luggage, yet security reason may force TSA official to unwrap the gifts and check it thoroughly.
It’s better to skip gift wrapping or avail the free gift wrapping facility post security checks which most airports offer during this time. A better option would be to use gift tissue warps or gift bags.
Valuable gifts – It is better to get them shipped ahead of time with online tracking facility and insurance. In case you are flying and you still have to take valuable or expensive gifts along, be sure to use carry-on. Avoid using larger carry-on because it might need a gate-check in case the overhead bins are completely occupied.
Be wise enough to use the carry-on space for valuable gifts because you don’t want to put them in the checked luggage, and fear it getting misplaced or lost. Also, keep the TSA’s 3-1-1 rule and the prohibited items in mind. Most of these rules vary for different airports and across international borders. Getting a full overview before packing is advisable.
Fragile gifts – If you are taking them along it is best to pack them carefully. Being doubly sure is better than regretting later. Use bubble wrap once, then soft clothing on top and another bubble wrap to ensure safety. Pack the item in-between clothes so that it’s cushioned from all sides.
Outsize gifts – It is better to stay away from over-sized gifts because getting them checked might cost you extra, especially for international travel. Besides, most airlines these days don’t allow checked luggage beyond a limit. In such a case you will have to get your baggage shipped as cargo at a fairly heavy price.
Think of lighter gifts – Avoid any hassles with gifts and traveling by thinking creatively about gifts you intend to give. Consider giving gifts that are lightweight, don’t occupy much space while travelling and have absolutely no fear of getting lost. There is no dearth of gifts ideas that are interesting and equally flabbergasting. Here are some for you:-
