In this first article in a projected series examining the healing properties of specific crystals and other stones, aventurine is one that is as intriguing as its name implies. Aventure—the French word for adventure—gives an indication of the kind of help nature gives with this unique stone.
This variety of the mineral quartz comes most frequently in greenish-blue hues but is also found in shades of blue or yellow. Not as well known as other forms of quartz such as amethyst, it is employed by holistic practitioners in treating ailments of not only the body but also of the mind and spirit. An all-purpose stone, aventurine is used in treating chakras to open and balance them. Those of the heart are dealt with by green aventurine; yellow is for the sacral and solar plexus chakras; and blue stones are used for the third eye and throat chakras.
As well, aventurine comes in handy as an anti-inflammatory agent. It is able to stimulate the thymus gland, lower blood pressure, and improve function of the body’s internal organs. As an anti-inflammatory it has the capacity to help the heart, especially, as inflammation is considered an important factor in heart disease. External problems such as skin afflictions (rashes, cuts, abrasions, etc.) can benefit from such aid also. There are few parts of the body, in fact, that are not subject to types of inflammation whether from contact or infection. Aventurine, therefore, is of value in fighting such problems.
Where matters of emotional/spiritual origin exist, this stone is equally important. It has long been credited with the ability to soothe the mind. Since many of the health problems people suffer from are known to be caused by stress, including those related to blood pressure, attacks on the gastro-intestinal system, even skin eruptions such as hives, the use of aventurine certainly is welcome to many. Considering the side effects often resulting from pharmaceutical remedies, is it any wonder that quite a few health consumers today are exploring the use of this and other gemstones to bring relief?
Toxicity in the form of electro-magnetic radiation is also a subject of growing concern today. What with all the electronic gadgets that dominate the world around us lately, from watches to laptops and much in between, it’s hard to avoid being exposed to radiation anytime, anyplace. In order to cleanse the body of this pollutant, many believe that wearing aventurine in the form of jewelry will help. Quartz, more than any other crystal or stone, has its own electronic properties. When stimulated, aventurine or other members of its family can stabilize the electromagnetic fields around it. Quartz of any form has long been used in the electronics field as an oscillator or “clock” to generate and control frequencies.
Whether you choose an ayurvedic healer, crystal healer or any form of holistic practitioner, you may want to ask about trying aventurine for any number of applications, physical, emotional or spiritual. It can be purchased in gem stores where the focus is on metaphysical use, or online. This is an inexpensive and non-invasive method of improving health and on top of it all—aventurine makes lovely jewelry. Let’s see anyone try that with pills!
