Marines refuse to endorse…
For United States Marines deployed to the Afghanistan Theater of Operations, their marching orders are fairly straightforward;
“Locate, close with and destroy the enemy…”
Easy enough for Marines, they’ve been doing that for over 237 years.
But for the Leathernecks comrades-in-arms in the U.S. Army, killing the enemy just got a little tougher.
No Mention Of Table Settings…?
In an article by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the newspaper was given the opportunity to review the draft of a new manual to be utilized by the Dough Boys headed to that particular combat zone.
As reported, the draft handbook offers a list of “taboo conversation topics” that Army troops should avoid, to include;
- Making derogatory comments about the Taliban.
- Advocating women’s rights.
- Any criticism of pedophilia.
- Directing any criticism towards Afghans.
- Mentioning homosexuality and homosexual conduct.
- Anything related to Islam.
Taliban Infiltration? What Taliban Infiltration…?
What could be viewed as adding insult to injury, the proposed manual places the blame for cases of our Afghan allies killing our own troops, otherwise known as “blue on green violence” on our own troops vice any Taliban and/or al-Qaeda infiltration;
“Many of the confrontations occur because of [coalition] ignorance of, or lack of empathy for, Muslim and/or Afghan cultural norms, resulting in a violent reaction from the [Afghan security force] member.”
Send In The Marines…
However, the top commander in Afghanistan, Marine Corps General John Allen reportedly refuses to endorse the new manual.
Sources close to the General have stated to the WSJ that he “hasn’t—and wouldn’t—endorse the manual as written.”
Seen as a slap to the (mostly civilian) researchers who compiled the draft, General Allen;
“Also rejected a proposed foreword that Army officials drafted in his name.”
According to Allied spokesman Colonel Tom Collins;
“Gen. Allen did not author, nor does he intend to provide, a foreword.
He does not approve of its contents.”
