A day after Angus T. Jones released his Youtube rant against his “Two and a Half Men” television show, more details are emerging about what the ramifications for his actions may be, as well as reaction from his mother who’s concerned for his behavior. Angus T. Jones, 19, delivered a rambling plea via the internet in which he asked viewers to boycott “Two and a Half Men” on CBS, calling it ungodly filth, and exclaiming he didn’t want to continue with the program. The actor’s comments could land him in the unemployment line, since insiders point out that actors’ contracts often contain clauses prohibiting them from making such statements. The Daily Mail is reporting today that Angus’ mother is concerned for her son given this online outburst, thinking the church he has joined may be exploiting him.
Angus T. Jones recorded his beliefs about “Two and a Half Men” as part of his “testimony” for the “Forerunner Chronicles”, in which he describes his “awakening” to the Seventh-day Adventist world church. Jones said, “If you watch ‘Two and a Half Men’, please stop watching. I’m on ‘Two and a Half Men’ and I don’t want to be on it”.
Industry experts say most actors’ contracts typically include “disparagement clauses” that prohibit them from publicly making negative comments about their show, according to Entertainment Weekly. However, they point out it’s rarely enforced since what is considered disparagement is very subjective, not to mention that it’s uncommon for an actor to actually do so.
TMZ is reporting today that Angus is in a sort of limbo now since he hasn’t quit the show, nor has the studio fired him yet. They claim that the show’s execs have seen the video. However, no one representing Jones, or the actor himself, have officially contacted them to indicate his desire to split from the show.
Jones reportedly makes about $350,000 per episode, which translates into around $8 million annually. To watch the actor’s video rant and read more of his disparaging comments about “Men”, in which he even hints at the show being linked to Satan, click here.
Angus T. Jones says in the video that his family has equated his “awakening” to the Seventh-day Adventist movement to that of joining a cult, going so far as urging him to leave the church. “But I didn’t feel like I was being fooled, I could study it for myself. It’s there in the bible and there’s no evidence for the opposing views”, he said.
Although Jones received a pay increase just this past May, his storylines since Charlie Sheen infamously exited the show have steadily decreased. His character “Jake Harper” enlisted in the army, and the actor complained to “E! Online” last month that all he does on the show are Skype calls.
Angus admitted it’s easy, but boring. It’s interesting to speculate what motivated producer Chuck Lorre to marginalize what is claimed to be one of the “integral” characters in such a way. There must be something more going on behind the scenes, but Jones’ religious conversion sure seems genuine in the video he posted.
Jones writes more of his testimony on the Seventh-day website the “Voice Of Prophecy”, describing how he started using drugs, although not giving specifics. He claims he never drank alcohol though, and was saved by God from losing his virginity as well.
TMZ is saying today could be telling since there’s a scheduled rehearsal for “Two and a half Men” this morning. It’s unclear if Angus T. Jones is scheduled to be there, but they say if he’s a no-show on the set, his absence could be “the first step toward the door”.
