In the land of Mixed Martial Arts fighting fight cards change. It is a given. Things happen. Fighters get injured during training or they can’t make the required weight or their bloodwork gets lost or their grandmother dies. It’s just the nature of the beast. That being said – Strikehard Productions is notorious for not releasing their fight card until a couple days before the event. No harm in that at all –except—true MMA fans want to talk about who is fighting who, who is being true, who is not making weight, who wishes they were fighting who, well you get the picture. You can’t help but be excited about who is fighting on a card and wanting to talk about it with your friends. Human nature.
Well true to form SHP 20 is going down on December 8 at Zamora Shrine Temple in Birmingham. This will be Strikehards 1st venture into the land of PRO fights mixed in with their amateur fighters. Strikehards 1st MMA show somewhere other than Tuscaloosa’s Killer Buzz Arena. Strikehard’s last show of 2012 with Pro fights and in a different city and different venue. They are a little nervous; understandably so. Things are going well for them so far though as all their VIP tables have been sold and they are working on filling up the VIP seating in the 1st and 2nd rows.
Not to darn shabby considering no one really knows the entire fight card as of yet. We know the PRO fights (they are under contract after all) – Main Event – Walt Harris (5th in the world outside of the UFC) vs. Josh Robertson (who trains at Spartan and with UFC Fighter Marcus Brimage on a daily basis); CoMain – Fred Weaver (Champions) vs. Robert Thompson (ProForce MMA Clanton) and the other 2 pro fights are Seth Burgett (local fan favorite from Bessemer) vs. Randall Ward and Ken “Copycat” Dubose (a self proclaimed G.O.A.T. -greatest of all time) vs. Andy Roberts. What is not known is what amateur bouts are scheduled to be on this very first SHP Pro/Am card.
This is what I know so far. Keaton Wood of Childersburg MMA is going to be one of the amazing amateurs on the card; as is Bryan “Cupcake” Lewis of Maverick Training Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Cupcakes opponent is Malcolm Hardmon from Atlanta, GA and trains hard with Auburn MMA. A few other ammies making their way over from the Peach State are Doro MMA fighters out of Athens, Georgia – Chad Stites and Greg Frederick. Jerald Colbert – a rising young amateur 125 lb fighter from Jasper, Alabama is taking on Aaron Quade from Georgia Fight Club for a belt. Another local fan favorite – Justin Reeser from Team Relentless and Keifer Hammack – back from basic training and stepping into the octagon for Team Voltage. You can’t miss Spartan fighters (Hoover, Alabama) – Anthony Hoyte and BJ England and Champions (Vestavia Hills, AL) MMA fighter Tyler Sly and Eryk Anders (former Crimson Tide championship football player). Auburn MMA will be in the house with Dallas Garst; always an entertaining and talented young fighter to watch. Weighing in at 170lbs and fighting for a title is Grant Shanaman from Phenix City, Alabama.
This isn’t even the whole card yet. David Elder reported on Beyond Ringside (www.beyondringside) that they have 16-18 fights scheduled for that night. Be sure to listen online to Beyond Ringside on Sunday, December 2 as Elder and the fighters take over the show to discuss their upcoming bouts at the December 8 event.
