Welcome to another week of “America’s Next Top Model: College Edition.” Last week, Leila returned to the competition after having the highest social media scores for her pictures since she had been eliminated, and the six finalists made their way to Jamaica.
The girls met six local male models, with whom they were paired up with. They also participated in a dance competition featuring club moves from the local culture. Kiara and Leila won that competition, earning them some great looking jewelry, and $10,000 for each of their college funds (which only the winner of ANTM will be able to access).
They had a photo shoot on a raft on the river, posing with coach Rob and their choice of the male models. The theme was that they were married to Rob, but having an affair with the local river guide.
Nastasia earned best photo, with Kiara and Victoria ending up in the bottom two. Victoria was sent home, and Kiara lives to see another day in the competition.
This week, the girls come back home to see Nastasia’s best photo on the flat screen TV. We then get the first of many confessional scenes of Kristin and Laura complaining about things. Kristin is so over living with the other girls, and she doesn’t want to be friends with any of them. Laura, on the other hand is upset that Leila is back. This goes on and on throughout this week’s episode at various times.
The next day, the girls head down to the beach outside their home, where they meet Johnny and a woman, whom he introduces as Cedella Marley. She is a singer and designer, and the daughter of the late Reggae legend, Bob Marley.
Cedelia gives the girl their challenge to rock some of her new swimwear line, “High Tide.” They’ll have a photo shoot in the water, along with some dolphins, whom we find out are animals that Tyra fears. They will pose with one of the dolphins in the shallow water, then head out to deeper water, where they will pose with one foot on each dolphin, while they swim towards the camera. Think living water skis. The winner receives $3,000 worth of “House of Marley” clothing, plus she will get to pick a friend for a spa day, courtesy of their hotel Half Moon, and of course $10,000 will go into her college fund. Sounds difficult. Let’s see who will be up to the challenge.
Kiara seems to do pretty well in the close pose, although she’s not interacting very much with the dolphin. On her riding pose, she doesn’t come up out of the water very much, so it’s hard to see the suit.
Nastasia is next, and she interacts well with the dolphin. Her riding pose has her out of the water, but she looks a bit startled, as the dolphins started moving to the side, so that shot isn’t as good.
Next is Leila. As she gets in the water, her dolphin gets spooked and flips around, hitting Leila’s leg with her tail. The medic checks her out, and they put an ice pack on her leg, which is bruised. She gets back in the water, and does pretty well. Her riding shot really turns out well, and she’s out of the water, showing the suit well.
Kristin is next, and she is a bit tentative about the dolphin. In her photo, it shows, and she looks scared. Her riding pose reminds Johnny of her cheerleader background. He’s not that impressed.
Laura’s photo with the dolphin looks good, but she isn’t interacting with the dolphin. In her riding pose, her top actually comes down, but she retains her pose.
Johnny gives the girls their critiques, and the winner is Leila. She decides to take Kiara with her.
When the girls arrive back at their home, Leila has her “House of Marley” clothing prize waiting for her, and she starts trying a bunch of her things on and admiring them. The other girls stand around in awe of the clothing, and Kristin is just so miserable, she even asks, “Do I have to stay in here?”
Soon, though the girls hear something downstairs, and when they arrive to look at what is making the noise, they are greeted with P’Trique on the flat screen, drinking a tropical drink that he says is called “Tyra Mail!
P’Trique’s message states:
“Whether you’re a chic little babbling brook, or a fierce raging river, remember that when you’re chasing the title of Top Model, it is easy to fall.”
That afternoon, the bus picks the girls up and takes them to Dunns River Falls, where they meet Johnny. He tells them that their photo shoot will have them trying to get a killer shot while posing in the waterfall. Oh, and they’ll have a very special photographer.
Off in the water, they see someone coming in on a jet ski. Could it be? Yes, yes, it is! Tyra! She tells them this was where she had her first swimsuit calendar photo shoot, and they’ll be fierce warrior princesses, posing in the waterfall, not about high fashion, but more like art. The shots will be in black and white, and she will be hanging the winner’s photo in her “salon” at home.
Tyra starts picking out objects that the girls will be styled with. Leila will be wood, Kristin will be fabric, Laura will be shells, Nastasia will be pipes and Kiara will be metal.
The shoot is tricky, as the rocks that the water is running down are very slippery. Nastasia is first, and she walks out into the rocks, and Tyra shouts some direction to her, but the falls are so loud, that Nastasia can’t really hear her. She pushes through, and tries different things, and in the end she was impressed.
Kiara is really afraid when she tries to get into position, but she looks super confident in her posing, and Tyra is loving it.
Laura is positioned more in the water than the other girls have been, and she even gets under the water, and really has a hard time getting a good shot.
Kristin is posed sitting, but her fabric shower curtain is so heavy while wet with the water, and it keeps slipping off her head. Johnny is worried about Kristin, saying that he doesn’t know if she has what it takes to be a top model.
Leila has her turn, and she really rocks it, with her posing both standing and sitting. Tyra says that she can see why the fans brought her back. They really knew what they were doing.
After the shoot, the girls go back to the house, and they are talking about how their photo shoot went. It seems that Kristin and Laura are really worried about being in the bottom two, while Leila and Kiara are both reveling in their great shots.
And with that, it is time for the Tyra elimination mail.
“Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. Only 4 will continue on in the hope of becoming America’s Next Top Model.”
The next day, it’s time for judging. Tyra introduces the judges – Kelly Cutrone, Rob Evans and BryanBoy, then talks about the prizes, and it’s on with the judging. I’ll post the scores in sets of 3, in order, Kelly, Tyra and Rob, from left to right.
- Nastasia – 8, 9, 9
- Laura – 7, 8, 9
- Leila – 10, 10, 10
- Kristin – 7, 9, 8
- Kiara – 9, 10, 10
The social media scores are added in and the call-outs are as follows:
- Kiara (Tyra chose her photo to hang in her salon)
The bottom two are Laura and Kristin. Will they actually send Laura home? Nope, sourpuss Kristin is going home.
Next week, the girls will be auditioning for a modeling job, as they ride horses on the beach. It seems that Leila has a problem with her horse, or maybe she is afraid of it. They also will shoot their “Dream Come True” fragrance commercial on the beach, while holding gigantic bottles of the ANTM fragrance. Tune in to watch next Friday, Nov. 9 at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
