You know Tyrone Wells’ music already, even if you don’t know his name. His catchy “Freedom” supported the TV spot for the Disney film “The Odd Life of Timothy Green.” “Losing Ground” from the album Remains was featured in season 9, episode 12 of television’s “Scrubs.” And his “All I’m Thinking Of” became an instant favorite when it played out an episode of Felicity. Wells’ music is perfect for media, be it film or television. His music is uncomplicated, upbeat and, at the end of the day (or feature), it makes you feel good. Added bonus: Wells’ music is appropriate for all ages.
So it stands to reason that Wells hits all the right notes yet again with his newest release, “This Love.” Every track on the album is just as good as the last, if not better. “This Love” essentially details the blossoming of a mature relationship in chronological order, beginning with falling in love and culminating in the birth of a daughter (“Aria”), who features on this lullaby long enough for you to fall in love with her. And if that wasn’t enough, well, just watch this video.
In keeping with this theme, if “This Love” were a relationship, “You and Me On Top of the World” would be its wedding song. In “Already Falling”, Wells croons “It’s a beautiful crash/and I’m already falling.” This is a perfect summation of how it feels to listen to this album. It’s an enchanting pink haze that pulls you into the blissfulness of one very lucky man’s life. Wells yearns for the “Simple Life”, but it sounds like he already lives one.
“God Would You Help Us” takes a quick break from the lovey-dovey to tap into the Bon Jovi-esque pleadings that emanate from a soul in distress. No matter what your beliefs, you cannot deny the groove of this tune, or the sincerity of its lyrics. This song is out of place on an album that is otherwise bursting at the seams with unfiltered love, but by no means does it suffer in quality. If any song on this album is destined to be on a repeating loop on your iPod, this is it.
If his music is any indication, Wells lives the life we all dream of living. He adores his wife, has created a beautiful daughter with her and upholds a mature and sunny demeanor. On “Make It Through”, Wells sings, “Nothing good is ever easy.” Maybe not, Tyrone, but you sure fooled us.
