The year 2012 in review saw different games that were released. There are always going to be new ones coming out. It’s really tough to say what the best video game to come out in 2012 was. From that viewpoint, it’s clearly a matter of opinion.
As far as the biggest release, it didn’t come until near the end of the year with the Nintendo Wii U. It was the first console of the eighth generation of video game consoles. The idea indeed has to do with getting a head start in the video game wars establishing dominance. Only time will tell on how well it will succeed with Sony and Microsoft, being the primary competitors, will future consoles as it is going to be speculative until it officially arrives on what they will be.
As far as video game anticipation, Halo 4 had to be one of the games that were anticipated especially after the events of Halo 3. It was not developed by Bungie but by 343 Industries but kept it the same as it had been in the First Person Shooter genre. It also is the signal of a new sequel trilogy that is about to begin with another story arc. It is the signature franchise of the Xbox much in the way that Nintendo has theirs with Mario, Link, and so forth.
In regards to downloadable games, it would have to be the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 because it is following the very first one. It is following the classic style in a sense like the original Sonic the Hedgehog games on the Sega Genesis. It is available for Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network as primary video game systems. The only thing unusual was that it wasn’t available for WiiWare. It was anticipated but it’s really a shame that it did not become available for those who have the Wii.
Between those two, there were also ones that should get some mention as well. For the wrestling fan, there is WWE ’13. It is available on multiple consoles so it’s a case of not having to have just a specific video game console. There is also Call of Duty 2: Black OPS. In summary, those are two of the games that had been anticipated but maybe not the biggest.
While there are different opinions without question in regards to video games, it’s simply a matter of perspective. 2012 in review saw some good games made and it can be expected to continue in 2013. Ultimately, the matter is about what was good in 2012 and only time will tell on what will be out for 2013. There are many video games that will be created and it will only continue to grow.
