‘Whatever Happened to Baby Jane’ is the eighth episode of “666 Park Avenue” and finds Jane struggling to understand what happened to her after she went down the spiral staircase. Kept in the hospital against her will, she tries to understand the events that brought her here. The episode aired Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012 at 9 p.m.
Henry is posting fliers around town looking for Jane who disappeared after she was swallowed up by the spiral staircase in the basement of the Drake. When she is found despondent, she is taken to the hospital where she is admitted and kept for 48 hours by law.
The doctor explains she has had a dissociative episode and needs to remember what happened in order to heal. When the nurse tries to put on a blood pressure cuff, Jane has flashbacks and flips out requiring sedation.
Nona, who witnessed Jane’s disappearance, tries to visit her in the hospital. She is intercepted by Detective Cooper and asks him to give Jane an envelope. It contains Jane’s necklace and the photograph of Jane as a girl at the Drake. In her groggy state, Jane overhears two nurses discussing another patient, Julian Waters, who was found in a similar state to Jane’s. He is in “D” wing for the violent and insane.
Jane slips out of her room and makes her way to “D” wing to find Julian. When she does, he is not much help. She asks if he went down the stairs too. He replies, “I came up the stairs.” She visits him again later and finds that he has drawn strange symbols on his room walls in his blood and that he has hung himself. Doesn’t look like he’ll be much more help.
Finally, Jane is released when Det. Cooper pulls in some favors with the doctor. He takes her home. Once there, she discovers the engagement ring Henry has stashed away.
Nona comes to see Jane and learns Jane has no memory of what happens. She takes her to see another resident of the building, a woman who knows a lot about The Drake. The episode closes with Jane standing outside the woman’s apartment. Previews for next week’s episode reveal the woman to be played by Whoopi Goldberg.
