PNC 2nd Street Market always welcomes new vendors. Oftentimes, new businesses first get their footing at the 2nd Street Market and then go on to open ‘outside’ shops – one example being Basically British, who got a start at the market and then moved to their current location on 502 E. Third Street.
Some of the newest vendors to join the market are Decoy Art Boutique, Maria’s Unique Foods, and Olive Tree Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegars. Located at the west end of the market, these new vendors bring an added dimension to market shopping.
Olive Tree Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegars has amazing olive oils and vinegars, in flavors you wouldn’t imagine: how about white coconut olive oil? Peach and strawberry olive oil? Wait wait – check it out – bacon balsamic vinegar! Yes! Bacon balsamic!! Try some of this on a sample of Blue Jacket Dairy’s Gretna Grillin’ cheese – words cannot describe the awesomeness.
How about chocolate balsamic vinegar or fig balsamic vinegar? The sweeter vinegars actually go well over a fruit cobbler or perhaps vanilla ice cream, and The Olive Tree owners are happy to help you with serving suggestions. Best of all, you can sample each and every olive oil and balsamic vinegar that they have (and we did just that). Olive oils and vinegars are only fifteen dollars per bottle – even for the white truffle olive oil – a steal for the quality and variety of oils available.
Maria’s Unique Foods carries one of the best area selection of locally produced (including Amish produced) canned goods. A most pleasant surprise was the variety of Simple Syrups which made an appearance at the Holmes County Dandelion Festival in 2010. These syrups include such interesting flavors as lavender, and seasonal flavors such as peppermint.
Maria’s Unique Foods has a variety of pickled eggs (aka beet eggs). Celery eggs, plain eggs, beet eggs and jalapeno eggs are handsomely arrayed in their glass jars in two different sizes. Also on the shelves are pie fillings, also attractively displayed in their glass jars. Pickled vegetables include baby corn and the unusual pickled summer squash! Jams, jellies, and preserves are all there, and a smattering of cookies, crackers and truffles are available as well. Gift baskets are available, or Maria’s will custom-create a basket just for you. These are great items to have on your shelves, especially during the unpredictable Ohio winters, when getting out to the grocery for fresh produce can be a hassle at best and it is prudent to have such items on hand in the event of a power failure during the icy winter months.
Decoy Art Boutique definitely has some unusual items, and perhaps the most eye-catching were the little air plants in glass ‘domes’ and the beautiful handmade ‘rhythm’ eggs, which double as musical instruments.
Decoy Art Boutique has air plants, which are perfect for anyone who enjoys the look of live plants in the house (they are live plants) but doesn’t want the hassle of caring for them (they require almost no care). The beautifully-colored rhythm eggs would make a fine display any time of year. Decoy Art Boutique features locally-created jewelry, journals, handbags, soaps and more; they have some very attractive stained-glass window-hangers, too.
Come visit 2nd Street Market this weekend, enjoy the live music and see the new vendors and the old favorites; there’s something for everyone at 2nd Street Market! 2nd Street Market is open Thursday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. As always, parking is plentiful and free!
