December 21, 2012 is officially the fist day of the Winter Solstice, even though on the East Coast it has already begun to feel like winter is here (on most days). As we are consider what clothes to grab out of the closet or even go shopping for, you should remember to get colors that you like and that compliment your eye color as well as your skin tone. The runways usually determine what colors are in season and people like to follow what they think is “In”. Well, truth be told no one can determine what looks good on you. There can be recommendations made to those that may need a little guidance but even after assistance is provided the individual ultimately makes that choice of what goes on their body.
Now that the weather has changed from hot/warm to cool/cold, our skin needs a little extra care in our daily maintenance routine when either applying moisturizer and make-up or just going bare. There are 3 different skin types that need to be addressed to help you to care for your skin in these dry winter months.
Winter Skins Care Recommendations
HAVE PLENTY OF WATER (inside out)
MOISTURE MOISTURE MOISTURE (from head to toe)
Oily Skin: use an oil-free serum with an oil-free moisturizer.
Dry Skin: use a facial serum/oil with a thick formula moisturizer.
Combination Skin: use oil-free serums on T-zone areas and a thick moisturizer on the cheeks.
Dry/Cracked Lips: use tinted moisturizing lip balm with (Jojoba oil, Shea Butter and Vitamin E) or they can be used alone.
Another way to keep skin moisturized is to keep a humidifier in your room and you will notice a difference in the softness and hydration of your skin.
For make-up application start with a rich base foundation. This is used to cover the uneven areas that appear more obvious because the cold weather makes the skin look paler. Be sure to use a base/foundation that has SPF/UVA/UVB for protection all year round. Powder will be needed for all over coverage on oily skin. For combination skin powder should be used on T-zone to set the base.
For eye coverage use cool colors with a matte finish, they mesh well with the fall/winter fashions. For a sophisticated/mature look go dark on the eyes and try either a matte magenta tone or go pale on the lips. Remember make-up companies offer nail polishes to match their lipsticks. This will help make choosing your colors a little easier with one less choice to make when it comes to finding colors to suite your individual choice. For a lot of people too many choices is just like having no choice.
The most essential thing to wear that wakes up your face is blush. Recommendations would be to use powder formulas rather than cream and/or gel blushes. For a more refreshed look try colors like terracotta or deep peach for warm skin tones and for cooler tones try pinks like magenta or fuchsia.
Recommended colors that fit this Winter Season:
Blues: royal blue, turquoise, royal purple , denim, and navy
Greens: emerald, pine green and true green
Neutrals: white, light grays to charcoals and black
Pinks: fuchsia, bright and deep burgundy, hot pink and red
Icy Colors: ice blue, ice pink, ice violet and ice blue
All-in-all remember when choosing colors, find colors that compliment your eye color and skin tone. Have fun and feel good while doing so!
