Here is another DC Rollergirl on the list, and no one should be surprised. Soledad has been making her mark on derby girls (in a very physical sense) for three years.
I personally remember skating against her at the beginning of 2010, when I was brand new and from what I recall, so was she. However, our team still came off the track talking about how brutal she was to hit, and how you had to leverage your weight to move her out of the way.
In the past few years, her hitting has gotten harder. Her footwork has gotten fancier. She doesn’t just bang into people for the sake of it, she has grown has the game has. She is able to work in walls with her team mates (I was lucky enough to be on her team at the ref clinic scrimmage before ECDX this year). It was great being on the floor with her, I had full confidence that where ever she was on the floor – she was there for a reason. She also never quit. Two hours into a scrimmage with a team of 12 and she was still enthusiastic about playing multiple jams in a row.
Regionals this year she made a splash. Yes, she may have fouled out a couple times, but the upsets DCRG had over their competitors? Soledad had a heavy hand in those. Every skater on the floor had to work as an integral part of the whole in order to win. And they did.
Her team mates were happy to contribute their thoughts.
Soledad always gives her all, in every practice, scrimmage or bout, and she carries her team along with her. She’s a phenomenal blocker in her own right — she always knows where to be and can put just about any opponent on the floor — but she also understands the importance of being a team player. – Lois Slain
Solie is a great leader on and off the track. She’s focused, a hard worker, and an inspiring captain last season for the DC All Stars. Skating with her on the travel team and then against her in home team match ups definitely helped shape me into a better skater and derby player. She consistently brings the heat and fiery competition to her game play. – Frightmare
Solie is a formidable leader and Player. She knows what words to use to rally the troops and make players work together towards a common goal. On the track, she is always a force to be reckoned with an her hits have sent many skaters flying. – Dual Hitizen
