As reported yesterday, 20 states have petitioned the White House to allow for peaceful secession from the United States. As of Tuesday, another 14 states have joined them with petitions of their own, with 34 now requesting that President Obama allow them to leave the Union.
Joining Louisiana, Texas and others, states such as Alaska, Arizona, California, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Wyoming have posted petitions. In order for a petition on the White House’s official petition Web site to get a response from the president, it must get 25,000 signatures in 30 days.
The following states have issued petitions. The numbers represent the number of signers as of this writing, and some states have two petitions.

Of course, there’s little chance that these requests will be granted, as they’re mostly symbolic gestures of reprieve against big government. Additionally, with the exception of Texas, none of these states could sustain themselves outside of the Union. California, for instance, is barely making it while in the Union, and many are blue states, so the chances of them seceding because of the Obama government are unlikely.
The accusations that the petitioners are “racist” and “extremist” have already begun (see James George’s article and the comment section of the original article on this topic). Fellow Examiner George goes so far as to suggest “education” and spying on the people who dare to distrust the federal government, the very institution that’s arming itself to the teeth to fight Americans and claims the right to disappear or flat out kill an American citizen without due process because why not, as well as to grope people, including children, in airports to see if there’s an al Qaeda in their pants while simultaneously funding, arming and training al Qaeda in Libya and Syria.
